Publishing a video as a YouTube Short
Whether a video becomes a Short is your choice in the composer, not something inferred from the file.
Choosing it
Section titled “Choosing it”In the YouTube tab, set YouTube type:
- Short — a vertical 9:16 clip that YouTube surfaces in the Shorts feed.
- Video — the regular 16:9 watch page.
When you pick Short, Postbean appends #Shorts to the title on upload. YouTube reads aspect ratio and duration to classify a video, and the tag makes the classification stick even when the metadata on a file is incomplete.
What YouTube expects from a Short
Section titled “What YouTube expects from a Short”- Vertical, 9:16 or close to it.
- 3 minutes or under. Longer than that and YouTube treats it as a regular video no matter what you tagged it.
Postbean does not re-encode or crop your video. If you upload a 16:9 clip and mark it as a Short, YouTube gets a 16:9 video with a #Shorts tag, and will most likely file it as a regular video.
Checking how it was classified
Section titled “Checking how it was classified”The link Postbean records is the standard youtube.com/watch?v=… URL — YouTube serves the same video on both, so the link does not tell you which it became. To confirm, open YouTube Studio, go to Content, and look at the Shorts tab.
